tumbling, tumbling toward freedom

Vinyl attempted to encourage everyone to follow Team Pandeponium on Tumblr, but is not actually very good at doing things like “linking websites,” so here is a general PSA! If you would like to follow Team Pandeponium on Tumblr, here’s where to find us:

  • Niko @ sparklevalue [content: 95% reblogs from me, 5% reblogs from other people]
  • Chash @ ponyregrets [content: 75% The 100 garbage, 25% non-the-100 garbage]
  • Vinyl @ twinsetspammer [content: terrifying memes]
  • The Value Tumblr @ himynameisnikowhiteandilikevalue [content: literally just posts a picture of Twilight Sparkle: All-Team Organizer every day at 6:30 EST]

Enjoy!

[Tournament Report] Chash Should Not Be Unsupervised

we wouldn't want the fire to feel lonely
we wouldn’t want the fire to feel lonely

Three of us from Team Pandeponium made it to Gencon this year, so you’ll get three tournament reports, each incompetent and frustratingly unhelpful in its own way. Mine will focus on how I am terrible at life and former Continental Champ and all-around good dude Nation Morath had to talk me down from lying down in the street and dying via Facebook. Also I’ll throw some stuff in about my match ups, probably? You know, whatever we feel like doing. It’s a process.

Friendship Is Tragic: Octavia Edition

She knows we're making bad decisions.
She knows we’re making bad decisions.

Hello friends, long time no talk! Our competitive scene hasn’t been super exciting recently, being mostly DreamQuest, combo, and Maud, so I haven’t had much to write about. But Vinyl, Sparkle Moneybags, and I are apparently connected on a spiritual level, because this past weekend we decided to make terrible Octavia theme decks for the hell of it, without even consulting each other. So, we might as well write about them, right? Right. Let’s go.

[Tournament Report] February Chaos is Magic at Pandemonium

Let's have a battle!
Let’s have a battle!

So today, on the last day of the worst month ever (at least if you were in New England), Pandemonium ran its Chaos is Magic event, where everyone got to play two manes. Now, sure, one option for this is to take your baller tournament deck and insert a DJ or a Maud or what have you for value, but where’s the joy in that? For this event, the members of Team Pandeponium went a different direction.

A flavor direction.

A fanfic direction.

And it was beautiful.

[Tournament Report] PonyCon 2015

This works better when Niko and I go places together, but aren't all adventures magic?
This works better when Niko and I go places together, but aren’t all adventures magic?

Hey friends, long time no talk! I’ve been not building very exciting decks because of dumb combo stuff and also we’ve been drafting a lot? I guess I made that Bubbly Mare hyperaggro monstrosity, but it’s a monstrosity, so you know.

After the bans, I decided to go to Ponycon, and so I was mostly focused on decks for Ponycon. Under the cut I’ll talk about the modifications Niko and I made to the deck (Dream Quest) and some about my games. And I’ll probably post a picture of my lunch from Sunday because it was an amazing gigantic plate of meat and starch. Are you excited for party times?

We're all excited for party times.
We’re all excited for party times.

Primer: Maudash Crystal Games Update

Hey guys, I’ve been playing with an updated Crystal Games version of my deck from this post and still enjoying it! CG brought us some neat tools, mostly in Orange (sadly, as I am a Dash player at heart), and some tools that are neat but probably also should not be.

Look at her smug face. She knows she is an abomination.

So, revised deck is here, with some notes under the cut!

Crystal Games: Chash Impressions

Niko has already done an extensive examination of Crystal Games cards, but he did it from the OCR, which means he neglected a very important part of his discussion: what’s the most hilarious art? What’s the most awkward art? Which art makes you feel sad in your soul?

Worry not. I’m here for you.

Let’s do this thing.

Primer: Maudash [Orange/Blue Villains]

I’m posting so much more than Niko! Is it because I’m better than him? It sure is. Tell your friends.

I haven’t been making many particularly competitive decks lately, and this isn’t what I’d play if I were going to a major event, but I’ve been playing it in our weekly meetups (when I’m not playing random garbage for fun) and I’m liking it pretty well. It runs a little expensive, so I’m including some alternate suggestions for some of the more expensive cards at the end if you want to run something similar on more of a budget.

Here’s the deck, if that’s all you’re looking for! Some discussion under the cut.

Friendship Is Tragic 1: Twilight Sparkle Noted Speaker

I’m not going to say this is going to become a regular feature, but it really could, because Friendship is Tragic is the name I’m giving to articles about how me and Vinyl Scratch make terrible choices and shouldn’t be allowed to be friends. And I feel like there is probably a wealth of articles in that. Both of us enjoy going really deep with horrible deck concepts and encouraging the other to do the same. It’s been described by many observers as a trainwreck. That’s also how we describe it. We know what we’re about.

Today, we’re looking at a trainwreck we’re committed to:

My ancient nemesis.
